§2.1.1 BIO
Jono Coles' work constitutes the developement of a critical theory of architectural practice;
embodying a reflexive concern with bureacracy, liability, speculation, etc.
He works between traditional architectural practice, art practice, teaching, writing, and alternative development.
§2.1.2 EDUCATION
Jono holds a Master of Architecture from UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design, where
he was awarded the Chester Miller Fellowship for his thesis Approaching Value, and the Branner
and Stump Memorial Travel Fellowships for the project (Un)American Egress.
He holds a Bachelors of Science in Structural Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, where he was an Honors College Creative Arts Fellow.
§2.1.3 EXPERIENCE
Jono has practiced across the United States and Europe, most recently for First Office and Foster + Partners.
His work has been published by the Guggenheim Foundation, AIA California, Pidgin, KoozARCH, and Room1000, and has been exhibited
in Pittsburgh, Berkeley, and Los Angeles, where he is represented by Placeholder Gallery.
§2.1.4 RECOGNITION
Jono is the recipient of the Eisner Prize, the highest recognition of creativity given by UC Berkeley, and has been awarded by numerous organizations for housing design,
including the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), The City of Los Angeles, the LA Housing Department, cityLAB-UCLA, and the California Homebuilding Foundation.
